    Requirements for the BA in Literary Studies with a concentration in Literature and Critical Analysis

    Faculty members in Literary Studies regard critical and theoretical writing as a process that is as creative as writing poetry, fiction, and drama. Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. In choosing courses to meet requirements, students are encouraged to meet with Juan De Castro for questions about the Literature and Critical Analysis concentration.     Required courses are as follows.

     

    Introductory courses:

    • Choose 2 of the following courses:
      • Literary Inventions—either LLST 2003/2004 or LLST 2007 (3–4 credits)
      • Literary Reinvention—either LLST 2005/2006 or LLST 2008 (3–4 credits)
      • LLSL 2002 Introduction to Literary Theory and Criticism

    Other required courses:

    • 1 LLST single-author course (3–4 credits)
    • 1 LLST-RFW Reading for Writers course (3–4 credits)
    • 4 LLSL Literature electives (12–16 credits)
    • 2 Advanced LLSL courses (6–8 credits)
    • 1 Poetry course (3–4 credits)

    Senior Capstone:

    • Choose 1 of the following, by advisement (3–4 credits) (see detailed degree requirements below for guidelines and deadlines):
      • Approved Individual Independent Senior Project
      • LLSL 4900 Senior Seminar: Literature

    Total credits: 36–48
