Requirements for the BA in Culture and Media

The major in Culture and Media requires completion of the 13 courses outlined below. Of these, two must be practice-based and two must be at the 4000 level or higher. A senior project, once approved, can be substituted for one of the 4000-level courses.

Students must receive grades of C or better in all courses taken to fulfill major requirements. The minimum grade for Core courses is B. If you receive a grade lower than B in a Core course, you must retake the course if you want to continue with the major. A grade of D in a non-Core LCST class cannot be counted toward the major (although it can still count toward overall credits). In addition, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is expected of all students intending to declare in Culture and Media. (A slightly lower GPA may be accepted if the student receives an A in the introductory course connected to their area or in both introductory courses if the student is mixing and matching between areas.)

Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. Courses should be chosen carefully, in consultation with the chair of the program. Track your progress using the requirements worksheet (see below). To see which courses fulfill these requirements, visit the Lang course finder.
