Profile
Nancy Geist is a designer, artist, and educator. In 20+ years of producing women's footwear in Italy, Geist has collaborated hands-on with over 50 factories, designing and crafting collections ranging from casuals to the finest couture level dress shoes. Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Italian Vogue, and Elle have featured her creations. Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue have sold her creations. For years the Nancy Geist and nancynancy brands anchored the corner of Spring and Mercer in their own SOHO NYC boutique and attracted a devoted coterie of international fans and celebrities.
Currently, Geist is a design consultant and part-time lecturer in the fashion department at Parsons School of Design where she teaches Shoe Construction. After years of honing her craft, she brings the eye of a sculptor and the precise methodology of an architect to her practice. In the classroom Nancy promotes an individualized approach to exploration of style, form and materiality and closely guides each of her students to achieve their personal goals.
Ms. Geist was inducted into the CFDA Council of Fashion Designers in 1995. Her footwear created under licensee for Cynthia Rowley was honored with the Michelangelo award presented by the Italian Trade Commission. Geist holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Sketches and photographs of her work have been featured in the following books: Shoes: A Lexicon of Style, Valerie Steele (Rizzoli 1999); American Fashion Accessories, Candy Pratts Price (Assouline 2008); Accessory Design, Aneta Genova (Fairchild 2012)
