  • Parsons’ AAS Fashion Design program enables you to shift careers and move into the fashion industry, turning your passion into a profession. You study the process, techniques, and language of fashion design from concept to production, using ethical and sustainable methods. You have the opportunity to design womenswear, menswear, and accessories, learning everything from drawing, draping, patternmaking, and sewing to tailoring and haute couture. Graduates bring fresh perspectives to the industry's established firms and have even launched their own collections.

    Program Highlights

    • Broad and Rigorous Instruction

      Explore research, fashion history, and construction techniques as well as visual communication tools and software for ideating collections and documenting work.

    • Learn from Leaders

      Be mentored by Parsons’ faculty of industry professionals, with class critiques and lectures by leading fashion design practitioners.

    • Launching Your Line

      Benefit from opportunities to showcase your work and your portfolio, which are promoted on a variety of platforms and presented during the annual Parsons Festival.

    • Industry Access

      Develop your creative practice in projects. Past partners include COACH, Louis Vuitton, Under Armour, Swarovski, Norman Norrell, and Cristobal Balenciaga Museum.

      The program is most suitable for mature students with some college experience, an academic or professional background in a field other than design, and the desire to start a career in fashion design.

    The program’s reputation for quality, industry relevance, originality, and comprehensiveness opens doors throughout the fashion industry. Electives give you opportunities to specialize in accessories, tailoring, textiles, knitwear, and many other areas.

  • Career Paths

    AAS Fashion Design alumni are leading innovation in sustainable fashion technology, working in design studios, developing businesses, and building brands globally. Graduates have joined major companies such as Chanel, Theory, Calvin Klein, Eileen Fisher, Kate Spade, Urban Zen, Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch, and GAP. Other alumni — such as Blanca Rodriguez, Jay Godfrey, and Aimee Kestenberg — start their own lines right out of the gate.

  • Related Programs

    • Fashion Design (BFA)

      Full-time undergraduate major (four years, 120 credits); best suited to first-time college students. Culminates in a thesis and qualifies alumni for further graduate study.

    • Fashion Design and Society (MFA)

      Full-time graduate program (two years, 60 credits); applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in fashion design and a substantial portfolio for this highly selective program.
