Miguel Robles-Durán (born July 25, 1975, Mexico City, Mexico) is an urbanist, and Marxist urban theorist working at the intersections of urban political-ecology, unitary urbanism, and the design of social and environmentally just urban processes. He is a tenured Associate Professor of Urbanism at The New School / Parsons School of Design in New York City, and director of the graduate urban programs.
Robles-Durán is founding partner and co-director of Urban Front, a transnational consultancy for urban justice, where he supports progressive governments across the globe design and implement programs that promote the right to the city. He is also a founding board member of The Shape of Cities to Come Institute, a New York City based co-learning and strategizing platform for urban activism. And co-founder together with the Marxist geographer David Harvey of Politics In Motion, a non-profit anti-capitalist media organization that hosts his podcast and YouTube program Cities After, where he talks about the capitalist contradictions of urbanization and the future of cities. Robles-Durán's work with the New York City and Rotterdam-based design cooperative Cohabitation Strategies (CohStra) has been globally influential to the contemporary development of socially-engaged forms of urban practice. He also was the co-director of the National Center for the Right to the Territory (CENEDET) in the Republic of Ecuador.
The design work of Robles-Durán has been displayed in prestigious venues worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), MAK Museum Vienna, La Biennale di Venezia, the Istanbul Design Biennial, the Shenzhen Biennial, Chicago Architecture Biennial, the Rotterdam Biennial, and the Lisbon Architecture Triennial. Currently, he is co-writing a book titled Cohabitation Strategies: Challenging Neoliberal Urbanization Between Crisis, which is scheduled for publication by ORO Editions in 2024. Among his other publications is the book, Urban Asymmetries: Studies and Projects on Neoliberal Urbanization, which he co-authored.
