    Lisa Norton’s transformative design pedagogy is concerned with the relationships between human consciousness and capacity development. Embodied tacit knowledge orients her approach to research and teaching rooted in constructive adult development, complexity science and meta-theory. Professionally, Norton's coaching, facilitation and consulting practices focus on cultivating conditions for the emergence of resilience in complex adaptive systems such as creative teams. Previous teaching experience includes The Florida State University, New Mexico State University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Parsons School of Design, where she currently serves as Professor of Design Leadership in The School of Design Strategies.

    Her forthcoming book, Design Being, emphasizes the role of developmental dilemmas in enacting capacities needed for 21st century designing, such as tolerance for difference, conflict and negative capability. A whole-body, whole-hearted approach to human potential, this realm of design being challenges us to move from predict and control tactics to extemporaneous feeling, sensing and responding to emerging phenomena – in real-time. Norton is currently a member of the International Consortium of Integral Scholars, the Deliberately Developmental Practitioner Network, the Participatory Agility Working Group, and a fellow of the Studio at the Edge of the World. Her writings have appeared in Design Philosophy Politics, Integral Leadership Review, Design Issues, E+E Design, Art Asia Pacific, Yishu, and other journals.
