    Astrid Lipka

    Profile

    Astrid Lipka is a principal at RICE+LIPKA ARCHITECTS - an innovative architectural platform for a range of building, planning, art and cultural research projects.  Together with co-principal Lyn Rice, she has developed an iterative design approach that takes pleasure in teasing out the unexpected performative/aesthetic potential of projects by inventively embracing their practical constraints.  

    Her work has been recognized through numerous honors and awards including AIA NY Awards, an AIA New York State Award of Excellence, an AIA New York/Boston Society of Architects Biennial Honor Award, an I.D. Annual Design Award and a BDA (German Association of Architects) Award.  She is a recipient of DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and Erasmus Mundus scholarships.  Lipka has lectured and exhibited work at the Architectural League of New York, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt, Germany, the Center for Architecture in NY, Parsons the New School for Design, the NAI Rotterdam, The Netherlands.  Her work at RICE+LIPKA ARCHITECTS has been featured in many periodical publications including Architectural Record, New York Times, Surface, Metropolis, Frame, Space Magazine, Azure, and Archinect.com: UpStarts, and in books including 1000x Landscape Architecture (Verlagshaus Braun), New Exhibition Design 01 (avedition), Young Americans (DOM Publishing), and Pure Plastic (Verlagshaus Braun), among others.  Lipka holds a Masters degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University.  She is a registered architect in New York and a LEED accredited professional.
