Undergraduate/AAS Advising
The advising and registration process for first-year, transfer, and new AAS students will begin in mid-June. Spring AAS admits can expect to hear from their advisor in January. This early engagement helps students adjust to life at The New School and in New York City. Academic advising and career development events are offered by dedicated advisors. Advising staff help to tailor students' undergraduate studies and other learning experiences designed to meet their academic and professional goals.
Graduate Advising
The advising and registration process for new graduate students will begin in mid-June. Academic advising and general career development events are also available to graduate students. In addition, students are appointed a separate career advisor who collaborates with Academic Advising staff to help tailor their graduate studies and other learning experiences designed to meet their academic and professional goals.
New Students: Preparing for Your First Semester
There are a number of tasks that you need to complete before you begin classes. New students should consult the university's New Student Information page for details (including information about New School email accounts, advising and registration procedures, orientation details, and important dates and deadlines) that will help to ensure your smooth transition to The New School. All new students must submit the required tuition deposit before they will get an email address and receive registration instructions.

All first-year and transfer students, both undergraduate and graduate, are required to attend New Student Orientation. Please plan your arrival at Parsons accordingly.
Current Students
As a Parsons student learning to be a designer, you may face challenges both in and outside of the classroom. The New School’s Advising staff acknowledges the diversity of the student population and approaches issues holistically, recognizing that a variety of factors influence academic performance. The overarching objectives of advising are to provide accurate, timely information and create a supportive environment to help you make academic decisions such as selecting a major, creating a plan of study, choosing whether or where to study abroad, or taking a leave of absence.
