Yes. You can work on campus, but before you start, you must get authorization from ISSS.

Yes. You can hold an off-campus internship, but before you start, you must be authorized for academic training by ISSS.

Yes. You can work in the United States after completing your program, but before you start, you must be authorized for academic training by ISSS.

You are eligible for academic training for the length of your program or 18 months, whichever is shorter. For example, if you completed a two-year program, you are eligible for a total of 18 months of academic training. If you completed a five-month exchange semester, you are eligible for up to five months of academic training.

You should apply for post-completion academic training with ISSS at least one month before your DS-2019 end date. Once your academic training is authorized, you must start no less than 30 days after your DS-2019 end date.

Working without authorization from ISSS is a violation of your J-1 status. This may affect your J-1 status and any future benefits applications, visas to the United States, or change of status applications. ISSS urges students not to engage in unauthorized employment.
