The New School community is deeply disheartened by Hampshire College’s sudden decision to close its doors. Eugene Lang College shares Hampshire’s dedication to reimagining a liberal arts education and helping students develop the skills, knowledge, and
creativity needed to address the most pressing issues of our time. We want to offer our support to all new and continuing students affected by this closure.
Lang offers many comparable
degree programs, including a Liberal Arts major, in which students work closely with a faculty advisor to design their
own course of study. Minors across the university are available to all undergraduates. Lang students can also take courses at the world-renowned Parsons School of Design and the College of Performing Arts and have unlimited opportunities to pursue their interests through internships, fellowships, and classes connecting coursework to community partners in New
York City.
We offer Hampshire students a smooth transfer path to Eugene Lang College in a number of ways:
- The New School is not requiring a fee to apply for any 2026 term.
- Hampshire students will be considered for merit awards and need-based financial aid. If possible, The New School will try to provide merit awards at the level of those offered by Hampshire. We encourage students interested in transferring to Eugene
Lang College to share a copy of their Hampshire aid package and merit scholarship award. Students who would like to be considered for need-based financial aid should submit a FAFSA with the New School code 002780.
- We will waive the enrollment deposit for admitted students who decide to confirm their enrollment.
- We will expedite the transfer credit review process and ensure that students understand how their previous coursework aligns with their course of study at The New School.
- Students who wish to live in on-campus housing are guaranteed a space.
