Dr. Lisa Litt is the Director of the Concentration in the Treatment of Substance Use and Other Addictive Behaviors (CTSAB) in the MA in General Psychology at The New School for Social Research. She is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in integrative treatment for substance misuse and traumatic stress and currently teaches Introduction to Substance Use Counseling and Advanced Issues in Substance Use Counseling, part of the CTSAB curriculum.
In her private practice in New York City, Dr. Litt addresses a range of clinical concerns including her specialization in the treatment of PTSD, particularly related to sexual assault and childhood maltreatment, and problematic substance use. Dr. Litt has been consultant, trainer and clinical supervisor on numerous psychotherapy studies funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, exploring effective treatments for postraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and co-occurring substance use disorders. Her co-authored books, Treating Traumatic Stress and Substance Misuse: A Guide to Integrative Practice (2024), and Trauma Services for Women in Substance Abuse Treatment (2009), provide guidance for clinicians to effectively treat their clients with co-occuring traumatic stress and problematic substance misuse.
Formerly, Dr. Litt served as the Clinical Director of the Trauma-Focused Programs at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital in New York, a specialty program for women and men grappling with histories of childhood and/or adulthood trauma and addiction. She continues to hold an appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
