  • The Impact Entrepreneurship Initiative encourages you to build your graduate degree curriculum based on your unique interests, goals, and the requirements of the master’s or doctoral degree program you're pursuing at The New School. These curricular resources are designed to guide and support you as you decide how to incorporate entrepreneurial skill-building and social innovation strategies into your New School education.

    Signature Courses

Students in early-stage venture development can apply to register for Venture Lab, Social Impact Entrepreneurship and Design, and Intro to Social Impact. These courses support graduate students in building the capacities and networks to explore sustainable ventures that address critical societal challenges.

    • Social Impact Entrepreneurship  provides students an opportunity to deeply explore a community's needs and to bring social and environmental impact programs to life.
    • The Venture Lab supports graduate students and upper-level undergraduates in developing financially sustainable ventures with the potential for scalable impact.
    • Intro to Social Entrepreneurship introduces students to key concepts associated with social entrepreneurship and explores various entrepreneurial approaches that address social problems within the United States and abroad.

    Graduate Minor

The graduate minor in Impact Entrepreneurship offers students an opportunity to further develop their entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and mindsets so that they can identify opportunities to create positive social impact in our rapidly changing world.

By drawing on interdisciplinary courses that build on their interests and needs, students take a collaborative, design-driven, systems-oriented approach to recognizing and developing business opportunities that are financially sustainable, address unmet social needs, and have the potential for scalable impact. They develop diverse skill sets in areas including cross-sector leadership, management, venture development, design research and prototyping, fundraising, finance, marketing, and social responsibility.
