Congratulations! You are embarking on an exciting journey at The New School. At our university, we believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive community, and on-campus living plays a crucial role in achieving that goal. We want you to focus on what matters most—your studies, your friendships, and the incredible opportunities that await you New York City.
As you prepare for your first year, we understand that where you will be living is a central aspect of your college experience. Starting in fall 2024, all first-year students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at our New York City campus will be automatically signed up for on-campus housing for their first year at newly reduced housing rates.
We want to make the process as smooth as possible for you. That’s why we’ve simplified the housing application selection process. All you need to do is submit your housing preferences, so that we can make sure you are matched with your ideal roommate in a residence hall that suits your needs and preferences.
Before you submit the housing preference for student housing, you must:
- Be accepted as a full-time student by one of the colleges of The New School
- Receive your New School ID number (N plus eight digits)
- Pay your tuition deposit (where applicable)
- Receive instructions for logging in to my.newschool.edu

Submit Your Housing Preferences
Housing for incoming first-year students is guaranteed. To be enrolled in on-campus housing, please submit your tuition deposit through the Admission Hub by June 1. Please note: You can access the housing portal within a few days of submitting your tuition deposit.
First-year students can specify their preferences in relation to residence halls and accommodations by completing the Housing Preference Form in the university’s housing portal. The Housing Preference Form will become available in the housing portal on February 8. Roommates are matched based on the questions answered on the preference form; please answer all questions honestly to help us find the best possible pairing for you.
