• The Scholarship Advising program provides specialized advising to degree-seeking students who wish to identify and apply for a number of national and international fellowships and scholarships. We educate students, faculty, and staff about available funding opportunities and help students determine which programs best meet their intellectual, professional, and personal goals.

Through individual appointments and workshops, we provide the following services:

    • Counseling on which scholarship, fellowship, and grant opportunities are the best fit
    • Guidance on the scholarship application process
    • Assistance in writing and revising personal statements
    • Referrals to resources and information on major scholarships

    Scholarship Guides

For more information about the scholarship process and a sample list of funding opportunities and websites, check out these guides:

    External Scholarship Policy

The total educational funding a student may receive cannot exceed the student's total cost of attendance. To ensure that the external scholarship will benefit the student as much as possible, it is our policy to replace the loan and work study portion of the student's financial aid package if the amount of the external scholarship exceeds the cost of attendance.

If the amount of the external scholarship funds received exceeds the amount of loan and work study, the student's institutional awards are reduced. In some cases, external scholarships have restrictions that limit funding to particular costs, such as tuition and fees. In such cases, our policy is to replace the loan and work study portion of the student's financial aid package and institutional awards.

    Reporting External Scholarships

The federal government requires that students inform The New School directly of any scholarships or other educational benefits received from sources outside of the university. You should report this information to the Office of Financial Aid and submit external scholarship award letters and checks to the Office of Student Accounts.

Please ensure that the information you provide on external scholarships includes your name and New School ID number. Send all external scholarship award letters and external scholarship check payments to:
