• Students are responsible for knowing university policies about adding or dropping courses and refund of tuition and fees. Refunds are granted only after the official withdrawal procedure has been completed.

The refund dates are for courses lasting a full semester or term only. Courses starting after the first day of classes (listed on the academic calendar) and courses shorter than the standard 15 weeks may have different refund schedules. Please speak to your academic advisor if a course you would like to drop is not a standard 15-week course.

    Total Withdrawal During the Semester
Students who withdraw from the semester entirely after the add/drop period has concluded may receive a refund of tuition and fees, based on the published refund schedule. This policy applies to students enrolled in both full-time flat-rate and per-credit programs.

    Partial Withdrawal During the Semester
Full-time flat-rate students who withdraw from individual courses and maintain enrollment in others may be eligible for a refund of tuition.

When you withdraw, a grade of W appears on your transcript and is counted toward attempted credits for the term; however, it does not factor into the term or cumulative GPA.

    Non-standard Refund Schedule

For courses that do not have a standard 15-week schedule, please refer to the Add/Drop and Withdrawal Dates by Course in the ME tab of MyNewschool.

    Eligibility

    Flat-Rate Tuition
Students in a full-time flat-rate program who drop individual courses may be eligible for a refund on tuition.

    Per-Credit Tuition
For students charged per-credit tuition (not flat-rate tuition) in New School for Social Research, Schools of Public Engagement, and Parsons graduate-level programs.

    Continuing Education and Nonmatriculated Students

For information on refunds for Continuing and Professional Education programs, including adult courses, certificates, summer intensives, and youth and pre-college programs, visit Tuition and Refund policies for Continuing and Professional Education courses.
