Student Conduct & Community Standards

If you have gone through the conduct process and would like to submit an appeal, complete this online form. Appeals need to be submitted within five business days of the date on your decision letter. Appeals can be submitted on the basis of:

1. The existence of new facts that (i) were not available throughout the investigation and adjudication process and (ii) may have materially affected the decision if they had been available at the time of the investigation and adjudication
2. Evidence (i) that procedures set forth here were not followed and (ii) that the failure to follow these procedures may have materially affected the decision

The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards can fulfill conduct verification requests for students who need it for study abroad, graduate school, or a government job.

• If you are applying for a study abroad program through The New School, we will work directly with the Study Abroad office to verify that you are in good behavioral standing.
• If you are applying for graduate school or law school, your institution will often provide you with a form you’ll need to complete that allows our office to provide your conduct history. Once you complete the section giving us permission to share your record, email the form to [email protected], and we will complete the remaining sections and send it back to your institution. If they are requesting a letter, send us the information about the request and we can work with you to provide the necessary information.
• If you are applying for a government job that requires a conduct verification, please fill out a FERPA release on MyNewSchool (under the Academics tab) to give us permission to release your information and email [email protected] to start the process.
• If you need to request a conduct verification for any other reason, please contact [email protected], and we will respond with next steps.

Some records requests also require academic program verification by the Registrar’s Office. You can send the request to [email protected] or [email protected], and Student Conduct and Community Standards and the Registrar’s Office will coordinate to complete the form.

We recognize that students are still learning and developing during their time at the university, and we will allow conduct records to be expunged if a student shows growth since the time of their violation. For expungement to be considered, students must complete all sanctions and not commit any conduct violations for one full year.
