Concentration in Psychoanalytic Studies (MA)

• Curriculum

  The Psychoanalytic Studies concentration within the MA in Philosophy requires completion of four courses totaling 12 credits, as well as a thesis or qualifying paper that addresses the area of Psychoanalytic Studies. Students can complete the 12 required credits via the required elective credits for the degree. 

  Courses required for the concentration range from intensive study of Freud to current trends in psychoanalytic theory. View current and past courses in the course archive.

• Eligibility and Application Process

  Any student who has been admitted to the MA in Philosophy and is registered for courses can apply to the Concentration in Psychoanalytic Studies. To apply to the Concentration, students must submit a petition to and meet with their student advisor. Students can apply for the Concentration at any time prior to their final semester so long as all requirements can be fulfilled in the remaining time. • Continuation to a PhD

  Pursuing the concentration in Psychoanalytic Studies does not in any way preclude a student from applying for admission to the doctoral program in Philosophy. Students who wish to apply to the doctoral program are subject to the same admission requirements that apply to those enrolled in the general MA program.
