      Admission Liaisons

Admission liaisons are senior graduate students who work with Admission office staff to provide prospective applicants with information about academic life in their departments. They are available to discuss the kinds of research and study that can be pursued in their programs, the nature of particular courses, student life, and similar matters. They can also arrange for class visits so that prospective students can experience our educational opportunities in-person.

The Admission liaisons can be contacted initially at the email addresses below. Prospective applicants can continue to communicate with them by email or arrange for a telephone conversation or an in-person visit. We are sure that you will find them friendly, informative, and helpful.

What's your favorite part of New York City?
One of the best pieces of advice I was given is to choose grad school based on where you want to live, and I knew I wanted to be in NYC. One of my favorite things about NYC is how people walk around the city with a sense of discovery. One will never fail to find inspiration in a city with plentiful quotidian and extravagant wonder.

Why did you choose The New School for Social Research and your program?
I come from a developing country hurt by neoliberal experiments. Standard economic theory does not help address our problems, and deindustrialization, unemployment, and poverty have led to high migration rates. NSSR's Economics department uniquely offers a critical education with an emphasis on Marxist political economy, post-Keynesian theory, and economic history. It's a great place to study issues of economic development from a historical and heterodox economics perspective.

What's your favorite part of The New School?
Naming a favorite part of The New School is hard — so many different things come to mind! If I had to name one, though, I would say the collaborative, collegial atmosphere. Everyone here, both faculty and students, is open to participating in projects and discussions with people of different interests, backgrounds, and disciplines, and this makes for an exciting intellectual environment.

Why did you choose to attend The New School for Social Research?
I chose to attend NSSR because of its historical legacy and the opportunity to work with outstanding faculty. My favorite parts of The New School are the close community we have created at my department and the library at the Vera List Center on 16th Street.

      What's a current project you're working on?
I am contributing to ongoing research into the role that weightlifting can play as an adjunct to the treatment of trauma. I am currently working on building a collaboration between The New School and The Center for Trauma and Embodiment to investigate the healing properties of weightlifting and exercise across a number of mental health challenges. One of my favorite parts of being at The New School has been the commitment to interdisciplinary work and the opportunity to build these kinds of partnerships.
