Overview
The Society, Technology, and Management minor is offered through the Schools of Public Engagement.
Society, Technology, and Management enables undergraduate students to examine technological innovation in the context of social impact and social justice. This transdisciplinary minor is situated at the intersection of the humanities, the social sciences,
design, technology, and management. Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to lead and manage technological innovation in their area of interest. They investigate technology as an integral part of social relations, exploring the extent to
which the technologies we create change the way we think about social engagement, material production, information generation and circulation, and many other aspects of our lives.
In addition to learning about the critical technical systems of diverse industries, students develop an understanding of threats to human welfare posed by technology and its systems that are not managed well. Students also investigate issues concerning
the deregulation and misregulation of digital spaces, platform monopoly, and increasingly sophisticated data processing, which have the potential to endanger democratic society now and in the future.
