The New School has determined that its licensure-qualifying programs meet state curricular requirements in New York state only. A list of licensure programs and the states where we have determined our curriculum meets state licensure standards is available here.
Licensure and Certification Opportunities Related to the MA in Psychology
Students who enroll in The New School’s MA in Psychology are eligible to enroll in the program’s optional Concentration in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Counseling
(CMHSAC). They may also be eligible to apply for admission to The New School’s PhD in Clinical Psychology. Please note that the MA in Psychology is not a standalone professional degree leading to licensure.
The CMHSAC and the PhD in Clinical Psychology have been designed to meet educational requirements that are specific to the State of New York. A determination has therefore not been made regarding whether these programs will meet the educational requirements
for licensure or certification outside of the State of New York.
Certification and licensure requirements vary from state to state. Students who intend to pursue licensure or certification outside of the State of New York should contact the appropriate agency to seek guidance and information confirming licensing or
certification requirements. Students should be aware that licensure and certification requirements are subject to change periodically and may include educational or degree requirements, professional examinations, background checks, character and fitness
qualifications, work experience, fingerprinting, and other requirements.
