Licensure and Certification Opportunities Related to the MA in Psychology
Students who enroll in The New School’s MA in Psychology are eligible to enroll in the program’s optional Concentration in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Counseling (CMHSAC). They may also be eligible to apply for admission to The New School’s PhD in Clinical Psychology. Please note that the MA in Psychology is not a standalone professional degree leading to licensure.

The CMHSAC and the PhD in Clinical Psychology have been designed to meet educational requirements that are specific to the State of New York.

Licensure for the PhD in Clinical Psychology

Online programs offered by The New School are exempt from authorization in Alaska under AS 14.48.

Because The New School is an out-of-state private degree-granting institution offering distance education, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education.

The New School has been granted certification of the degree programs by distance technology, Master of Science in Media Management, Master of Arts in Media Studies, and Master of Science in Strategic Design and Management by The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The New School has approval to operate an institution by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Colorado, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.

The New School is not required by the Connecticut Office of Higher Education to obtain approval to offer online programs to residents of Connecticut.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Florida, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Florida Commission for Independent Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Georgia, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Hawaii, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Hawaii Postsecondary Education Authorization Program.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Idaho, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Idaho State Board of Education.

The New School has granted the required exemption by the Illinois Board of Higher Education to offer online programs to residents of Illinois.

This institution is authorized by the Indiana Board for Proprietary Education, 101 W. Ohio St. Suite 670, Indianapolis, IN 46204-1984.

Indiana students who voluntarily withdraw from all courses will receive a tuition refund as follows: before the start, or 0% of the term = 100% refund; less than 10% of the term = 90% refund; 10% up to but not including 25% of the term = 75% refund; 25% up to but not including 50% of the term = 50% refund; 50% up to but not including 75% of the term = 25% refund; more than 75% of the term = no refund. The New School will make a proper refund within 31 days of the student's request for cancellation. If the student has paid tuition extending beyond 12 months, all such charges will be refunded.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Iowa, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Iowa Student Aid Commission.

The New School is in compliance with Kansas regulations to offer online programs to residents of Kansas.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Kentucky, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.

The New School is currently licensed by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana. Licenses are renewed by the State Board of Regents every two years. Licensed institutions have met minimal operational standards set forth by the state, but licensure does not constitute accreditation, guarantee the transferability of credit, or signify that programs are certifiable by any professional agency or organization.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Maine, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Maine Department of Education.

The New School is registered with the Maryland Higher Education Commission to offer online programs to Maryland residents.

The refund policy for Maryland students is as follows: Proportion of Total Course, Program, or Term completed as of Date of Withdrawal or Termination Tuition Refund: Less than 10% = 90% refund; 10% up to but not including 20% = 80% refund; 20% up to but not including 30% = 60% refund; 30% up to but not including 40% = 40% refund; 40% up to and including 60% = 20% refund; more than 61% = no refund.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Massachusetts, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.

The New School has approval to offer online programs to residents of Michigan from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs—Private Postsecondary Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Mississippi, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation.

The New School is not required to obtain authorization from the Missouri Department of Higher Education.

The New School has authorization from the Montana Board of Regents.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Nebraska, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education.

The New School does not have authorization from the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education to offer online programs with a physical presence.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in New Hampshire, it is not required to obtain authorization from the New Hampshire Department of Education, Division of Higher Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in New Jersey, it is not required to obtain approval from the New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education to offer online programs to residents of New Jersey.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in New Mexico, it is not required to obtain authorization from the New Mexico Higher Education Department.

The New School is authorized to award degrees and offer degree programs by The State Education Department/The University of the State of New York, Office of Higher Education, 89 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York 12234.

The New School has authorization to offer online programs to residents of North Carolina from the North Carolina Board of Governors for the University of North Carolina—General Administration.

The New School has been granted the required exemption by the North Dakota University System to offer online programs to residents of North Dakota.

The New School has authorization from the Ohio Board of Regents to offer online programs to residents of Ohio.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Oklahoma, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Pennsylvania, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Pennsylvania Department of Education—Division of Higher Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in South Carolina, it is not required to obtain authorization from the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in South Dakota, it is not required to obtain authorization from the South Dakota Secretary of State—Postsecondary Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Tennessee, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

The New School has an exemption from the Texas Workforce Commission. Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Texas, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The New School has authorization from the Utah Division of Consumer Protection.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Vermont, it is not required to obtain authorization from the Vermont Agency of Education.

Because The New School does not have a physical presence in Virginia, it is not required to obtain authorization from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

The New School is authorized by the Washington Student Achievement Council and meets the requirements and minimum educational standards established for degree-granting institutions under the Degree-Granting Institutions Act. This authorization is subject to periodic review and authorizes The New School to offer field placement components for specific degree programs. The council can be contacted for a list of currently authorized programs. Authorization by the council does not carry with it an endorsement by the council of the institution or its programs. The New School has authorization from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The New School has authorization to offer online programs to residents of Wisconsin from the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board.
