Students must be matriculated or enrolled full-time in a certificate program to be considered eligible for on-campus student employment, and they must also meet all federal requirements for working in the United States.
On-Campus Student Employment is a program that is 100 percent funded through departmental funding within The New School. Students do not need to demonstrate financial need in order to qualify for employment. On-Campus Student Employment differs from the
federal work study program in that all of students' wages are paid by the university department employing them, and any wages earned are considered income for the purposes of financial aid need assessment in subsequent years, as well as for tax reporting.
Students working in the On-Campus Student Employment program are paid at least the current New York City minimum wage and receive bi-weekly payments. The funds are not applied to the students' university accounts with the Office of Financial Aid.
Graduating Students
Students who will continue to work after graduation need to be transferred from their student positions (including federal work study) to temporary positions by the first of the following month. For example, a
student who graduates on May 14 can work until May 31 and be transferred to a temporary position as of June 1.
International Students
If you are an international student with F-1 or J-1 immigration status whose immigration records are held by the New School, and you are graduating in the current semester, your on-campus employment must end
on the last day of the month in which you complete your final program requirement. If you have any questions about your I-20 or DS-2019, please contact International Student and Scholar Services by emailing [email protected].
