    In Integrative Studio/Seminar 1, we were tasked with redefining a space. In response, I came up with the concept of The Gratest Fear. The Gratest Fear transforms a grate, an ugly, little-noticed detail of Place Vendôme, into a beautiful and meaningful object. This element of public infrastructure is transformed into a work of art, enhancing the square’s beauty through colorful flowers and designs in gold leaf. The eye-shaped flowers symbolize courage and protection in the face of the danger posed by sidewalk grates. Even as the flowers dry and their petals lose their freshness, their beauty lingers. When they are gone, their message lives on in the golden eyes. Passersby recall the beauty of the flowers and are enriched by the memory.
