    John Romero

    Profile

    John Romero is the Principal Trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and an S.E. Shires Performing Artist, having previously held the same position in the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra from 2016 to 2018. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from
    Baylor University, and his Master's degree from Rice University.

    During college, Mr. Romero competed at the national to international level in 7 solo
    competitions, winning 5 of them, and 2 of 3 trombone quartet competitions. These included 2 solo contests at the International Trombone Festival and the Baylor Concerto Competition, where he played the Bourgeois Trombone Concerto. Recently, he qualified for the prestigious 2019 International XVI Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia, where he made it to the top 33% in the semifinals.

    In addition to his performing duties, Mr. Romero is in high demand as a private lesson instructor and master class clinician, having given master classes at places such as the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University, the 2019 International Trombone Festival, and many others.
