    Caroline Sonett-Assor

    Profile

Caroline Sonett-Assor, Director of Mannes Prep, has performed around the world as a chamber musician, orchestral soloist, and guest lecturer. She has performed with Slee Sinfonietta, the Bronx Opera Company, the Symphony Orchestra of the Americas, and the Miami Chamber Orchestra. Caroline has held chamber music fellowships at festivals in Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and the USA. She is committed to musical community outreach and performs in yearly recital series at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and public libraries in Westchester.

Dedicated to nurturing a love of music along with a deep understanding of musical foundations, Caroline includes elements of music theory and history in each lesson. Through flute lessons and chamber coachings, she encourages students to think critically and creatively as well as to assess their own progress. Students can expect to play, listen, count, sing, and, on occasion, improvise! Caroline has worked with a wide variety of students spanning both age and experience, and she has also prepared students for regional competitions, concerto competitions, college and graduate school auditions. She works with each student to create individualized practice plans and long-term goals.

Caroline has held positions at Eastman School of Music, Alfred University, The University of Rochester, The University of Buffalo, and various community music schools. She has held residencies at Gettysburg College, Kent State University, Alfred University, University of Buffalo, and the Eastman Community Music School. Caroline completed her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Flute Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music as a student of Bonita Boyd. At Eastman, she earned a specialization in Arts Administration in conjunction with University of Rochester's Simon School of Business. She received a BA in Music from Columbia University in the City of New York.
