    Advising

Data Rush is an internet-connected kinetic sculpture that explores the crisis over data. Data Rush is an interactive kinetic sculpture that reflects the past, present, and future of data shared over the internet. Specifically, it talks about the underlying keys that giant internet corporations in Silicon Valley use to monopolize and leverage user information since discovering its unimaginable value. Additionally, this project also captures the growing awareness of today's internet users of the evolving mass electronic surveillance programs such as PRISM and X-Keyscore. Every piece of information we send and receive and the data we rush out is monetized and can be used as a tool against us.

Data Rush was inspired by the California Gold Rush of the 19th century that took place near present-day Silicon Valley. The sculpture itself represents a big intricate processing machine. It taps into the data network, which turns it into a mechanism for dropping gold (candy) by precise calculations – in other words, it exchanges bytes for real currency.
