Cuban-born Lucy Arner has extensive experience as a vocal coach, pianist and conductor, having worked in some of the world’s great opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera and the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona (Spain). She holds a BM degree from Baldwin-Wallace College (Berea, OH) and a MM degree from Indiana University, and also attended the University of Miami (FL) for her doctoral studies. She has received Distinguished Alumnae Awards from Baldwin-Wallace College and the University of Miami, and was honored with the Henry C. Clark Distinguished Conductor Award for her debut with Florida Grand Opera with Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
As a pianist and coach, Ms. Arner has worked with singers of all levels. Through her long association with IVAI, she has taught young singers in vocal arts programs all over the world, and frequently presents master classes in schools and conservatories. She has been on the Mannes vocal coaching faculty since 2009 and also teaches the Spanish Song repertoire class.
Lucy Arner has conducted opera and concerts all over the world, and was the first woman to conduct an opera in New Zealand and in Mexico City’s historic Palacio de Bellas Artes. In addition to her busy teaching and conducting schedule, Ms. Arner also coaches privately in New York City.
