  • Continuing students are those living in university housing this year and all currently enrolled students who plan to live in New School student housing in New York City next year (full year 2021-2022). The Housing application is now available on the housing portal for continuing students who wish to live in the residence halls for the upcoming academic year.

Students may apply for an academic year (9-month) contract or a full calendar year (12-month) contract. A 12-month contract ensures that housing is available to the student year-around without worrying about applying for additional housing, while the 9 month contract is for the academic year only. Specific occupancy dates for each contract option will be shown on the housing application.

A certain number of beds will be set aside for continuing students. They will have the opportunity to select their own rooms if they apply by the priority date (April 1, 2021). Any applications that are submitted after the priority date are assigned based on spaces available.

    Special Housing Accommodations

In accordance with applicable federal, state, and city disability laws, The New School's Student Disability Services office will review your request for special housing accommodations.

Housing accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis, taking the student's documented disability-related need and prevailing standards for reasonable accommodations into consideration. Fill out the request form to request a special housing accommodation.

    How to Apply

Once you have all the information described above, you can begin your application for student housing.

    1. Log on to
    2. Select the Services tab and find the housing application link.
    3. Fill out the online application.
    4. Electronically sign the 2021–2022 Housing License Agreement.
    5. Pay the non-refundable housing deposit of $350 (part of submitting the application).

Your housing application is not complete until you have made your $350 housing deposit.

    Application Deadline

You must apply by April 1, 2021, in order to participate in the annual housing selection process. Log on to and complete and submit the online application. Be prepared to pay the nonrefundable $350 housing deposit when you submit your application.

You cannot apply after the deadline to participate in housing selection. After April 1, you can start the application, but will be added to our wait list. If housing becomes available, you will be contacted by the Housing and Residential Education office to complete your housing deposit if selected during the lottery in August. We recommend that you look for alternative solutions off campus, as we may not be able to provide housing to all students on the wait list.

Remember that this is a 9 or 12-month contractual obligation unless you are graduating or participating in an approved study abroad program in spring 2022.

If you have any questions or concerns, email or call 212.229.5459.
