Do you want to build your English proficiency in order to work as a professional chef or study local and international food issues?

The ESL + Food Certificate, offered by English Language Studies at The New School, provides high-quality English language courses for students who want to attend culinary school, obtain a degree in Food Studies at The New School, or choose another career path within the food industry. Students may request and pay the associated fees for the ESL + Food activities each semester in which they are registered for ESL classes.

In addition to taking their general English courses, students at Level 4 (middle-intermediate) or above can participate in a series of extracurricular activities that focus on language related to food for an additional activities fee of $150.

ESL + Food activities can include:

    • Demo classes at the International Culinary Center
    • A visit to a Food Studies class at The New School
    • Self-guided visits to food-related talks and events
    • Discussion and food-related language practice with an instructor

The New School is located in the heart of New York City's Greenwich Village, one of the world's most vibrant and diverse communities. The city is an important part of the educational experience of our students, who will someday be global leaders in their fields.
