    William Cusick

    Profile

    William Cusick is a video artist, filmmaker and projection designer based in NYC.

    Cusick’s second feature film, Pop Meets the Void, premiered in June 2015 at the 5th Lower East Side Film Festival in NYC and was awarded Best Feature Film of the festival. Previously, Cusick directed the award-winning experimental film Welcome to Nowhere (Bullet Hole Road). The neo-surrealist road movie premiered as an Official Selection of the 2012 Lower East Side Film Festival, received the 2013 Founders’ Choice Award at the Queens World Film Festival in NYC and was featured at the Queens Museum of Art.

    Cusick’s video projection designs for theater, music and dance have been featured in productions around the world, and most recently on Broadway in Sharr White’s The Other Place at Manhattan Theater Club in 2013. Cusick received the 2007 Henry Hewes Design Award for Projection Design for Tom Stoppard’s The Coast of Utopia on Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater. International designs include Rasta Thomas' Rock The Ballet, Tap StarsDer Schuh Des Manitu, and Salome's Envisage. 

    As the resident video artist for the NYC experimental theater company Temporary Distortion from 2005 to 2012, Cusick created video designs for five stage productions and two video art installations including Americana Kamikaze, Newyorkland, and Welcome to Nowhere. Cusick's video design for Americana Kamikaze was selected by USITT as part of the American Theater Design presentation at the 2011 Prague Quadrennial.

    As a contributing editor for Chance Magazine, Cusick conducts interviews with directors, video artists and projection designers working in contemporary performance. Recent interviews include experimental filmmaker Bill Morrison, projection designer Tal Yarden, and writer/director Jay Scheib. Cusick participated in the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for American Theater Designers from 2009-2011, and was a Harvestworks Artist-In-Residence from 2008-2009. Cusick is a United Scenic Artists Local 829 Projection Designer since 2008.
