• Medical & Mental Health Support

  • The health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff, is our top priority. If you need medical or mental health support, please review the resources below.

    If You Feel Sick

Community members who feel ill, whether or not they have COVID-19 symptoms, should stay home. Students must contact Student Health Services at [email protected] and/or schedule an immediate telehealth appointment at shsportal.newschool.edu. Staff and faculty should contact their medical provider. Anyone with severe symptoms including fever and/or shortness of breath should call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

    Common COVID-19 symptoms include:

    • fever or chills
    • cough
    • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • muscle or body aches
    • headache
    • new loss of taste or smell
    • sore throat
    • congestion or runny nose
    • nausea or vomiting or diarrhea

    If You Need Emotional Support

Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a counselor and/or participate in one of their virtual support groups. Staff and faculty can access support through the Employee Assistance Program.

    Emergency Contacts

    • New York City Police and EMS: Call 911
    • Campus Security: 212.229.7001
    • Counseling Services: 212.229.1671 option 1 (Nurse Response will answer the phone after hours)

If You Recently Recovered from COVID-19

There may be a small number of students, faculty, and staff who were diagnosed with, and recovered from, COVID-19 within weeks of coming to campus. This affects the protocol for entry testing. Those who have had a positive test for COVID-19 within 90 days (but have recovered for more than 10 days and have no symptoms) will not be re-tested.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that COVID-19 molecular material can persist for up to 90 days, even past the point that patients are infectious. However, if those individuals are having any symptoms of COVID-19, they may need to be treated as experiencing a COVID-19 recurrence. Students who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within 90 days prior to coming to campus should inform Student Health Services and submit documentation of their positive COVID-19 test by emailing [email protected]. Faculty and staff should consult with their medical provider.
