This summer filmmaking intensive course for high school students (rising juniors and seniors, age 16+) combines 16mm filmmaking craft with high-definition (HD) digital techniques and tools, immersing students in the history and practice of making movies. One of many youth and teen programs offered through
The New School's Open Campus, this course is taught by School of Media Studies faculty. The course is kept small to encourage collaboration and offer students individual attention. Students gain a critical understanding of how reimagining the city through multimedia storytelling engages, provokes, delights, and informs audiences. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis beginning November 15, 2018, for summer 2019. The filmmaking intensive is subject to availability and space is limited; students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
Once a student is accepted to the program, a link to the online registration form will be sent with an acceptance letter. Payment for online registration can be made by credit card only.
Please note that acceptance into the program does not guarantee a seat in the course. Students must successfully register for the course after being accepted to the program to guarantee their seat. Upon registering, students will receive a confirmation email.
When the course reaches maximum enrollment, it will be closed for registration. After the course has closed, students will be added to the
wait list. If space becomes available, students will be notified by email.
Please be aware that no financial aid or scholarships are available for this summer intensive program.
Housing is optional for students. Registration for housing must be done online by completing the housing application. The housing application form will be emailed once the student has successfully completed registration for the course. The form will be available in January 2019.
The cost for four weeks of housing is $2,200. Students in housing are required to purchase the meal plan, at an additional cost of $500. This cost is included in the housing application form. The total cost of the New School housing and meal plan amounts to $2,685.

To qualify for a full or partial tuition refund, your written withdrawal request must be received by the deadlines below.
The School of Media Studies reserves the right to cancel courses. If a course is canceled, you will be notified and asked if you wish to transfer to an open course at The New School or receive a full refund of tuition.
Most colleges accept credits earned for the summer filmmaking intensive course. At the end of the program, you can access your grade through our
online student information system. Transcripts must be requested from the Registrar's Office. You will receive a student handbook with information explaining this process in detail.
