Final Project Options

  • All Master of Arts (MA) students must fulfill a final project requirement, usually in their final two semesters of study. Final projects are an important way that students at GPIA gain valuable professional experience, whether as practitioners, media producers, consultants, or researchers.

There are three options for completing the final project requirement:

    • Thesis: An independent research project conducted under the supervision of a faculty member with relevant expertise in a given field.
    • Research Portfolio: A portfolio on a particular topic that includes two research papers completed in two advanced research seminars
    • Practicum in International Affairs: A team-based project conducted for a client organization and overseen by a faculty supervisor.

Students choose their capstone project in consultation with their advisor when they have completed 18 credits. Each of these options requires six credits worth of classes, and significant independent work - either individually or in groups - that is conducted in close consultation with a faculty member.
