    Safety and Security FAQ

    My passport and student ID were stolen - what should I do?

    Report the theft to the local police station. In most cases, an official police report will be necessary in order for you to request a replacement passport. Report the theft to your embassy and follow any instructions they provide to be issued a new passport. You should always keep a copy of your passport, but we also keep a copy in the Office of Student Life. Report the theft of your student ID card to the Office of Student Life. You will need to have a new card printed, at a cost of $25.

    Please also use common sense when withdrawing money from ATMs (always use ATMs in the bank vestibule if at all possible). Snatch-and-grab theft of smartphones may also occur; be sure to be discreet when using your phone on the street or metro. And whenever you are seated in a café/restaurant, keep your bags/belongings on you and not hung on the back of chairs or out on the table.

    Is it safe to travel late at night?

    Day or night, you should always be alert and aware of your surroundings. If you plan to go home before 12:30 a.m. and you are in a group, you can use the metro. If it is later than 12:30 a.m., the metro will be closed; we recommend you take a taxi or call an Uber. Travel on night buses is not recommended.

    What should I do if I become sick?

    For recommendations for doctors who have seen Parsons Paris students, please contact Student Life by stopping by room 200, calling +33 (0)1.76.21.76.44 during office hours, or sending an email to allison.brown@apiabroad.com.

    Otherwise, it is very easy to schedule an appointment with a doctor by using the Doctolib website. You can search for a doctor with the availability you need and in the neighborhood you would like. Student Life can provide you with detailed instructions for navigating the site. 

    If you are too sick to leave home, you can ask for a doctor to come to your apartment by using SOS Medecin. You can either go to the SOS Medecin website, create an account, and request a visit from a doctor online ("Demandez la visite d'un medecin") or request a visit by calling +33 (0)1.47.07.77.77. Over the phone, the operator will ask you for your name, your birthdate, and the nature of your health issue. He or she will ask for your address, including any codes or interphone access information, for the floor, and which door is yours. It takes from 15 minutes to an hour for doctors to come, but they are generally very fast. You can also request an English-speaking doctor if you wish.

    In case of a medical emergency, you should seek immediate care by going to a hospital or calling an ambulance; then please call the Parsons Paris Emergency Phone at +33 (0)6.24.53.64.97. For students who do not speak French, we recommend going to the American Hospital of Paris (63 Boulevard Victor Hugo, 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine;  +33 (0)1.46.41.25.25).

    General Safety

    Does Parsons Paris have security agents on duty?

    Parsons Paris security agents are on duty from the moment the campus opens in the morning until the building is closed at night. On-duty agents will request photo ID from all students, guests, and visitors entering the building. All agents are trained in first aid and can be contacted from any classroom by using either the intercom phones or by using the SOS boxes.

    What should I do in case of a widespread emergency?

    Natural disasters, terrorist attacks, or catastrophic events can all be considered widespread emergencies. In case of a widespread emergency, all students, faculty, and staff should contact their families and await further instructions from Parsons Paris-designated emergency personnel. Parsons Paris registers all students in its New School Alert system and in the U.S. Department of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).

    I am not an American citizen. How can I find out what my embassy alerts or warnings might be?

    Students who are not U.S. citizens are encouraged to contact their country’s embassy in Paris for more information. Take a look at an up-to-date list of embassies maintained by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
