• Grades 9–12

    Theory: 1-hour class
    Ear-Training: 1-hour class
Ensembles: Senior Chorus, Symphony, or Philharmonic

This program is for high school students who wish to take the Mannes Prep curriculum but whose private lesson teachers are not on the Prep faculty. Theory majors may participate in ensembles and chamber music but may not perform solo works in workshops and recitals or enter the annual Concerto Competition. Theory instruction centers on advanced chromatic harmonic studies and counterpoint in all species. Realization of figured bass, harmonic analysis, and more advanced forms are also taught. Ear training centers on advanced dictation, sight-singing in all the clefs, complex rhythmic patterns, and score reading. Significant works from the repertoire are used to demonstrate theoretical concepts.
