    Li-Chen Hwang

    Profile

    Dr. Hwang is an active piano teacher and consultant in New York City.  She frequently judges in competitions and festivals in New York and New Jersey area.  Many of her young students have earned high honors in different piano competitions such as Young Artist Piano Showcase, New York Music Competition, Concert Festival, American Protége International Competitions, Buono and Brashaw International Piano Competition, Rondo Young Artist Festival, NYSSMA, and ACMA music festivals.  In 1997, Dr. Hwang was named as one of most distinguished piano teachers in New York City by New York Magazine.  Since 1999, she continues to be aired on Lifetime Television Network as a "Real Musician" in its "Real Women" profiles.  As an advocate for music education, she was interviewed and contributed articles on studying piano for Parents’ Guide in New York Yellow Pages (Ambassador Publishing) and has given pedagogy talks to parents and teachers in the New York and New Jersey areas.  

    Dr. Hwang studied piano with Roman Rudnytsky, Robert E. Hopkins, and Kwong Kwong Tung; composition with Robert Rollin; piano pedagogy with Robert Pace; and Suzuki method training with Carol Biggler and Mary Craig Powell.  She has served many terms as Co-Liaison for the Piano Department and is currently serving as Liaison for the Program for the Very Young.  Dr. Hwang was a formal faculty at Diller-Quaile School of Music, the 92nd Street Y and Si-Yo Music Society.  She has joined Mannes Prep since 1991.
