Overview
The Transmedia and Digital Storytelling graduate minor is offered through the School of Media Studies in the Schools of Public Engagement.
The graduate minor in Transmedia and Digital Storytelling enables students to familiarize themselves with multi-platform content creation and distribution models, using online, video, audio, mobile and social media, live events, and interactive and immersive
technologies. These media forms are used for story extensions and audience engagement, documentaries and social action, brand marketing and advertising, and new forms of creative storytelling and presentation. The minor also educates students
studying a variety of disciplines on how media informs, influences, and entertains across platforms and channels.
Curriculum
This graduate minor requires successful completion of 9 credits through courses chosen from the chart below. The courses do not need to be taken in any particular sequence, although it is recommended that students take the Storytelling Across Media course
first if possible.
Course availability may vary from semester to semester. Some courses may be in development and offered at a later time. Students seeking to pursue alternative coursework in other subject areas to fulfill the minor should consult with their advisors.
*Students who have already completed two of these courses, or will do so for their program, should select other courses from this or other subject areas.

Learning Outcomes
A student who has completed this graduate minor should be able to demonstrate:
- The ability to write for time-based media, with an emphasis on storytelling on various media platforms, from existing channels (e.g., TV, streaming, online, mobile) to emerging channels (e.g., virtual, augmented, and mixed reality)
- The ability to create narrative and documentary content, with an emphasis on transmedia and cross-media narratives, for existing channels (e.g., TV, streaming, online, mobile) and emerging channels (e.g., virtual, augmented, and mixed reality)
- An understanding of the changing role of media in civic society

Eligibility
The Transmedia and Digital Storytelling graduate minor is available to graduate degree students across The New School. The minor requires an application for admission.
Students can retroactively apply successfully completed courses toward a minor upon declaring or applying. After a student successfully completes a minor's requirements, the minor will appear on the student's academic transcript at graduation.

How to Declare, Change, or Apply to a Minor
Current students can declare or change a minor by logging in to my.newschool.edu, clicking on the Academics tab, and then clicking on the link to Major/Minor Declarations. Students can access the
application for this minor by filling out the declaration form.
Students in one-year programs should declare a minor by the end of their first semester of study, ideally before registration for their final term. Students in programs whose duration is longer than one year should declare a minor by the end of their
first year of study.
